Game Recap

9/9/07 @ Cleveland Browns With Coach Bill Cowher now retired after 15 years, new Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin comes on board.   This is the 134th straight game Ward has caught a pass.  Ward has three catches for 51 yards, with one TD on a 5-yard pass from Roethlisberger.   Roethlisberger completes a 17-yard pass to tailback Najeh Davenport and Ward, blocking downfield, throws one of his trademark ferocious blocks on Browns' CB Daven Holly so forceful Holly is knocked unconscious.  Ward is later fined $5,000 by the NFL for a late hit and unnecessary roughness for the play.  Ward calls the play "a clean hit that just came a little late."  Browns coach Romeo Crennel is winless in five cracks at the Steelers. The Steelers present Coach Tomlin with the game ball for his first ever Steelers victory. W 34-7
9/16/07 Vs. Buffalo Bills Ward has five catches for 55 yards and extends his streak to 135 consecutive games with a catch.  The Steelers win their 500th game, the most among AFC teams.  Coach Tomlin wins his home opener as the Steelers' coach, just as Bill Cowher (1992) and Chuck Noll (1969) did.   W 26-3
9/23/07 Vs. San Francisco 49ers Ward has one catch for 2 yards and one rush for 7 yards before being injured and leaving the game with a bruised leg bone.  Ward took a hard hit from 49er S Mark Roman in the third quarter while attempting to make the catch from Roethlisberger that sailed wide.  Ward has nine catches in three games this season and 657 in his career, the most in Steelers history.   Ward stretches his streak to 136 consecutive games with at least one catch.  Pittsburgh extends its streak of not allowing a 100-yard runner to 27 games, dating to November 2005. W 37-16

10/7/07 Vs. Seattle Seahawks Ward is inactive due to his knee injury.  Incredibly, with Ward and WR Santonio Holmes out, Pittsburgh's offense couldn't be stopped, with RB Willie Parker and TE Heath Miller rising to the occasion.  Pittsburgh's last shutout was 41-0 over Cleveland late in 2005.   W 21-0
10/21/07 @ Denver Broncos Ward returns to action and leads the team with 7 receptions and 78 yards receiving.  He continues his streak of 137 consecutive games with at least one catch.  Steelers lose it with Broncos K Jason Elam scoring on the field goal with 2 seconds left on the clock. L 28-31

Cincinnati Bengals Ward leads the team in receptions with 8 catches for 88 yards and two TDs.  Ward's two TDs mark the 11th multi-TD game of his career and the first of the season.  He goes over 60 career TD receptions (61), pulling him within two TDs of John Stallworth's record (63) for the most receiving TDs by a Steelers' WR.  Ward also pulls within four points of John Stallworth for seventh place on the Steelers' all-time scoring leaders list.  With the win, the Steelers solidify their hold on first place in the AFC North. W 24-13
11/5/07 Vs. Baltimore Ravens Ward starts in his 128th career game at WR and finishes with 4 catches for 28 yards.  With former Steeler greats including Mean Joe Greene, Jack Ham, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann and Terry Bradshaw in attendance to celebrate the Steelers' 75th anniversary, the Steelers dominate the Ravens.  Roethlisberger ties the Steelers' single-game record with five touchdown passes in the first half. The  Steelers defense forces three fumbles in the first quarter, with LB James Harrison hitting Ravens All-Pro safety Ed Reed so hard on a punt return the ball flies nearly 15 feet before Steelers LB Lawrence Timmons recovers the fumble.   Throughout the game, Ward delivers blocks on defensive backs that make him seem more like a linebacker than a wide receiver.  In the second quarter Ward puts a crushing block on Ed Reed that is still talked about today.  Ravens LB Bart Scott was also on the receiving end of a powerful hit by Ward, after which Scott threatens to kill Ward.  The Steelers win big in this bitter rivalry, taking control of the AFC North.   W 38-7
11/11/07 Vs. Cleveland Browns Ward has a game-high 7 catches for 80 yards.  He catches a 12-yard TD pass from Roethlisberger in the third quarter, giving him 62 career TD catches, just one shy of tying the Steelers' all-time record.  Ward also gets the pass from Roethlisberger for the 2-point conversion. W 3-0

W 24-10
12/9/07 @ New England Patriots Ward has five receptions for 39 yards.  The Steelers still lead the AFC North, but could have clinched a playoff berth with a win.  Instead, the Patriots win and clinch a first round bye. L 13-34
12/16/07 Vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Ward extends his team record to 145 straight games with at least one catch with one rush for four yards and makes a TD on an 11 yard pass from Roethlisberger in the fourth quarter.   Even with S Troy Polamalu back making a team-high 10 tackles following a three-week layoff with a knee injury, the Steelers lose it after Jaguars' Fred Taylor scores a decisive touchdown on a 12-yard run in the final two minutes.  The Steelers are now tied with the Browns for the AFC North lead. L 22-29
